A word from our chair…
The founder and chair of SWiT will describe the history of the charity as well as our vision to make a difference in the technology community.
Our Purpose, Vision & Strategy
Scotland Women in Technology (SWiT), exists to Champion, Celebrate, and Invest in women in the technology ecosystem within Scotland.
Founded in 2008, SWiT is a not-for-profit organisation with a drive to put gender equality at the forefront of the technology ecosystem. It is run by a board of committed volunteers who have the vision and alignment to promote and champion gender equality at the heart of our proposition.
Championing diversity and gender equality in the technology sector, both now and for future generations, is a key priority for SWiT. We want to help shine a spotlight on some of Scotland’s most inspirational female technology leaders, whilst retaining the talent and encouraging more young women to pursue a career in technology and innovation.
As a non-for-profit we are proud to be the oldest women in tech network in Scotland. We don't believe there should be barriers to entry for this industry and therefore believe in giving back to the women tech community in Scotland. SWiT are vendor agnostic and will therefore collaborate with anyone as long as they match our ethics and values. We lead with our ethics and values of gender equality and inclusion by offering support to women in the tech ecosystem in Scotland through active mentoring, workshops, events and webinars.
Our annual event is called with SWiT Awards which has become a flagship event in Scotland. Scotland has an abundance of fantastic female role models in technology, however they are not always visible in this sector. The aim of the awards is to celebrate these role models and their successes within the field of technology.
We celebrate the ones to watch; the teachers in all levels who inspire and empower the next generation; the employers who are champions of diversity and inclusion and those who have spent their lifetime advocating and trailblazing within the industry to name but a few.
We have also this year launched a partnership with Cisco and Glasgow Caledonian University to create a new programme called 'Women Do Cyber' – fully funded by Scottish Government, a training programme designed for women to give them the accreditations in this area and therefore increase the number of women in cyber in Scotland.
Get involved
Our network is fully inclusive and open to all to join, simple follow our social media channels and get involved with the activities! Join our community if you are;
1) An individual women already in tech or transitioning into the tech ecosystem,
2) An organisation who want to partner with SWiT to support our initiatives and drive for gender quality and inclusion in tech,
